schultz-evler strauss piano concerto
on: May 06, 2005, 10:18:48 AM
usually i don't go for the old time, virtuosic concertos but i heard this one on the radio the other day.  it was well played and sounded actually kind of modern in some spots.  has anyone heard or played it?
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

I've never heard of it, but I'm interested to find out some more information too. The only piece I know by Schultz-Evler is the "concert arabesaues on the Blue Danube" which is a very virtuosic set of piano variations, but not a concerto.  Does anyone know anything else about this composer?

porilo,  now that i think about it, that's what i heard.  it was so well played and i tried to remember the pianist (he died at 33 years of age - but was really good).  maybe it will come to me when i don't try to remember his name on purpose.

It was one of Joseph Lhevinne's "showpieces" and I think both Shura Cherkassky and Jorge Bolet have made recordings of it too.

thanks for the info!  i will look into boulet because it might have been him.  in any case, it was fantastic.

thanks for the replies.  i will look into this again when at barnes and noble.  it was on the radio, so i didn't have a chance to write down his name.  (probably an old recording - so it might not be available).
