The club scene, with Rob47.
on: May 07, 2005, 06:24:01 AM
Do any of you go out on the weekend to stupid clubs/bars that play top40 music??  I am fed up with the fashion show that is night life.  I jsut went to Picadilly Circus (A club/bar in Toronto, Canada) and it honestly one of the biggest poser-fest's in the world.  Seriously I wore the same clothes I've been wearing for the last 3 days, (just got back from uni and haven;t unpacked),  and it appalleled me too see all these UNDERAGE drunk teenagers in one place, all actin like thugs/sluts walking around with there Blue Steel faces on.  I turned 22 last week! Am I already too old for the nightlife?? what??!?!?!?!?!  Pianists may be insecure but 18-49 year olds are ridiculous.  My friends didn't seem to notice, and in general I s' pose I had a good time but holy sh&**.  Insecurity amongst young people runs rampant.  No I don't think  I'm better than them (Although my octaves are probably faster than most kids in the club :P) but I think I'm getting old.  The stupidity of youth is glaringly obvious too me these days, despite being only 22, and still0 drinking at bars/clubs, smoking weed (actually I quit, but still...occasionaly) and partying like an adolescent....the future is dark.  The kid's are not smart. Someone convince me otherwise!!!!

Sincerely
Robbie

I've been to lots of clubs in New York and one in Portland but I usually go to have a good time myself and try not to let other people's "personal deficiencies" get to me.

In any case I agree, there're lots of posers and most of them are ridiculous and I'd say all of them are motivated by some kind of fear but hey as long as it doesn't affect me.

I am just an old fogie who is nearly a half century old, but I can tell you  that my experiences with clubs in my youth were not too different from yours.  People in clubs generally *are* posing.  Most are looking to attract attention from the opposite sex (or same if that's what they're into), either for a fun night out or to find the ideal mate.  That  makes for the perfect setting for posing - being out to impress - think peacock with spread tail doing its mating dance.

As for the alcohol abuse, again, some things never change.  This is the point at which kids are first experimenting with their limits, and some, unfortunately will fall prey to their own addictions.

I quickly learned that I hated such scenes and simply quit going.

if i haven't mentioned it enough here already i hate clubbing! i hate being around people i know who are off skanking themselves away and flashing as much flesh possible for some random sleazy guys. it's disgusting- i can't say i'm completely free from not putting myself in that position once, but i was very very wasted and learnt my lesson and have never done it again. but the music is crap, it smells gross, you can't hear what anyone's saying and there's nobody worth talking to anyway. so i can't understand why i have friends who go almost every week. so even if you are looking for a guy to go out with, night clubs are not the place to do so unles you want some disgusting sleaze who is purely interested in getting into your pants. and i'm only 19- so last year at 18 when we were allowed to go clubbing there was a lot of pressure to do it regularly, but i learned after going like twice that it really wasn't remotely the greatest thing in the world. in fact it's probably one of my least favourite things to do. so thank god i have decent friends who feel the same way or i might go insane with the moronities of teenagers

Damn, Siberian, but yea you're right it is all about booze and sex.  So my question is: WHO WOULDN'T GO?  :)  You will only get as much out of it as you put into it - but that doesn't mean you have to put out :p  To be honest, I haven't gone clubbing in years, and I did not like it that much - Tash, you said you just turned 19 (I saw your pic by the way and it was quite lovely) but don't like clubbing - I'm assuming you're in college? Clubbing is but one way to meet in college.  In my early years of college life, it seemed like everyone was going out on the weekends.  Understand you can go out but don't have to get so drunk you'll forget what your name is - LITERALLY! No joke, I have seen the scene get this bad.  Let's not forget about drugs.  Now maybe you're looking for drugs and drink - then, by all means, go out to bars, frat parties, etc. etc. and get blasted for 10 dollars total.  But if you must go to these events, try to meet ppl you can spend time with outside the party and make friends.  Then you can have some real fun later on.  Otherwise, it's not worth it after a while, unless you like being a slut (which goes for guys, too, I mean, come on).

but clubbing is boring if you're not somewhat drunk. cos the whole point is to dance the night away and i hate dancing with a passion, so that really sucks. meeting people- well i can't hear a word they're saying, and i meet people in my classes which is fine by me. and uni is too far away to go out partying to anyway. haha how boring do i sound!
