Jeremy Ricketson - Improvisation, May 9th
on: May 09, 2005, 07:40:57 AM
Sorry for all of these posts... this is the last one, I promise. I wanted to get up one composition, one improvisation, and one real piece.
So then, this is an improvisation..... I just improvised it about twenty minutes ago. It's kind of creepy outside (thunderstorm going on) so I made some music to fit the mood. Sometimes, you can even hear the thunder from outside.

I like the little figures around 3:54 to 4:26, just about where the thunder is. I like the rhythmic cell around 4:49 to 4:54. Both these things I would have liked to go on longer and be developed more. But when it comes to improvisation what others see as desirable may not coincide with your own purpose. Therefore take anything I say with a pinch of salt. A master of piano music in this sort of eldritch mood is Frank Bridge. His Gargoyle, Hidden Fires and Midnight Tide evoke much the same reaction in me as parts of your playing here.
Anyway, let's hear more of your improvisation.

Thats some very creative playing! I like how the storm fades away in the end after a big thunderclap...

Thanks for your very helpful comments. I listened to it again this morning and I didn't remember a whole lot of it (strange, isn't it?). But then again I did do it at 2:00 am last night....
