Absolute pitch

For this poll, "absolute pitch" means instantaneous recognition of one note without relating it to any other note, played or memorised, as a reference point.

i do not have absolute pitch, but i can tell if a note is sharp or flat.  i tend to like pianos tuned slightly sharp.  (i am within 1/2 step at least on my note recognition, too).

does this mean something important?  like will we tell the truth or lie?  what if i said yes...i have absolute pitch and really didn't?  how would anyone know.  i think there should be a midi section that you have to identify quickly without leaving the keyboard.  (see what skeptism has crept into my previously happy life).

and what about people who say they don't have absolute pitch, but play the violin professionally.  how would you know if they were telling the truth, or just like to play 1/8th above pitch?
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

No, it's not particulary important, Pianonut, just an interesting fact. Of course you do not know that anybody will answer any poll honestly. In my experience, absolute pitch is pretty clearly either there or not.

haha oops... minus one off "yes" didn't read the post first.

alot of my "pitching" comes from intervals. i have memorised C G and A though. so that's where i pitch from.

I note that Dazzer has relative pitch;

And it can be fairly well developed by most people with some work.

It is of interest that the human ear is more accurate than is usually thought, being sensitive to  a change of some 8 to 12 cents...(100 cents in a half step)...Something I remember from an acoustics class in college, because it was a surprise to me.... :o

I don't have it but I got a good sense of pitch. I can a lot of time figure out which key a piece is in or which note is played but I'm not always 100% sure of it.
