First Concerto
on: May 11, 2005, 09:15:05 AM
I've never seriously studied a concerto before.  My teacher is having me do one over the summer for next year.  Most likely I will play Prokofiev's  first.  Is this an ok starting concerto?  Parts of it sound difficult, other parts sound not too bad.  I think it might be tough getting through it all in a single playing.

Thanks

Prokofiev's first is incredibly difficult, but not as difficult as the second or 3rd, but best of luck to ya. you've got balls if that's your first concerto ever.

I love prokofiev! Go for it. I started my first concerto after christmas this year, and then  competed with it last week, and it was tchaik's 1st... pretty bad idea hahaha. Oh well, losing builds character. There are SO many concerto's out there, so find one you really love to death, then it'll be a labor of love.  :)

Ditto.

I love Prokofiev's PCs, but 1 is tough (2 and 3 are killers).

When you give up on Prokofiev 1, try Mendelssohn 1 -- it's a tad bit easier.

Prokofiev 1 is a beast. Do Beethoven's Emperor. Mendelssohn is a stupid idea.

I stand corrected.  Go with Beethoven's Emperor.  That's a great idea.
