Kohler & Campbell 5'2''

Could you tell me about this piano. Anyone ever played one, or another of this brand? How's the action, dynamics, response, etc? I am looking into renting one over the summer for $189 a month. ETC. Comments.

I own a 5'9" one. (KCG 600)  Think its a fabulous piano for the money. Sounds like a great opportunity to try one out by renting first. Although just about *any* 5'2" piano is NOT going to be anywhere near as nice sounding as a larger grand.

Pretty much a lesser instrument, but it will sufice for most for a reasonable price on purchase or rental...

I have seen some that were really very good, and lasted a long time...including one where I worked that was fine after 15 years....and almost NO maint....it was the one in the BAND section, and was generally "banged" on constantly just in passing...and for any reason if someone was mad..It was used for practice every afternoon as one of the practice instruments for piano students...(I had the rest of those piano's in my section., mostly Baldwin Hamilton studio's)

Thank you both for your quick replies. I'm not really looking for sound...although that IS important to me...but mostly for a grand's response and action. I will use it to practice over this coming summer...I go to try out the piano in a little over a week.

That is an awful lot of money to spend renting a piano just to have the action and response of a grand.  If you don't have a piano, I would purchase a good upright (for probably less money per month) before I rented a grand.  A very wise man once said, "If you can make an inferior piano sound superior, you will be able to make a superior piano sound incredible."  Why rent a inferior grand (just for the action ), when you could purchase a superior upright for the same monthly amount.

Wouldn't that have a relation to how long it was going to be used? I assumed it would be for a max of some three mos....Comes to about $570 and then you just call and get it removed...

I WOULD prefer to invest that much in a quality instrument, but if your conditions were preventive for a long term purchase, I still think it might be a possibility for some people...(although it seems about $30 higher than I usually see...)

I already have a Yamaha T-121 Upright...I need a grand to develop my technique over the summer...but am not in the position to purchase right at the moment.

Wow, a T-121 is a pretty nice upright!  I am assuming you must have access to a grand during the school year, which is why you are renting only for three months.  I would have a hard time sending it back in three months if you don't have access to one normally.  It is still a lot of money...seems like there should be a cheaper way to get in a little practice on a grand every week.
