I believe other than the last several years you will find the 1st to be the most played....BUT all you have said in regard to other works is true and reasonable.
I am however, a strong believer in the 3rd symphony..It is a difficult and more mature work than earlier orchestral material..It came some 30 years after the second after all..
It certainly shows a powerful technique, as attested to by many critics...I think it is neglected to some extent...I have it by L'Orchestre...(whatever) must be de la??..Suisse Romande and it is very keen indeed...I guess I could go and get it and look,,,...

I am struck, as some others surely are, by the second movement...The Adagio ma non troppo...It has a special feel of modernism as well as romanticism in my opinion..
Never fear, I am not neglecting his stronger Sym. Dances...I was just wondering about how some others of you felt about the 3rd...as it is not well received as his other works.
