i noticed someone said Prok sonata 5, i'll say 8 and 9.  I know 8 is somewhat appreciated, however chances are you are quite more than likely to hear 3 ot 6 at a recital.

Anything by Sorabji! He is one of the most underrated composers there are! I'd say his Fantasia Espagnole is a neglected masterpiece that most people could appreciate if they actually heard it!

And, one of my favorite composers, Leopold Godowsky. I have yet to hear a piece by Godowsky that I didn't like! I suggest to everyone that they check out my topic on Godowsky (back when I was still Ludwig Van Rachabji) and listen to some of the samples I provided. His music is wonderful!

Penderecki is another one. I am not usually a fan of atonal/avant-garde music, but Penderecki's music is so exciting. I love his Canticum Canticorum Salomonis.

Hi First post here  ;)

I would have to go with the Grieg Sonata Op 7 and the Ballade Op 24(Grieg). I know that some may appreciate the Ballade but it still isn't known that much which is too bad as it is a great piece of music. It is too bad Grieg is mostly known for Peer Gynt and the Piano Concerto. While those 2 pieces of music are both great, there are also great pieces that he wrote. I'll also add all Violin Sonatas and the Cello Sonata (Sorry I'm just a Grieg freak). Again they arent really known except maybe for the 3rd Violin Sonata. Lyric pieces in selections are known which I guess is fair enough.

Music by Martinu. Its fresh, inventive, funny and some of it is difficult as hell to ensamble.

Hate to self promote, but check out the recording of the Martinu Quatour I posted on the audition room and tell me what you think :)
For a good laugh, check out my posts in the audition room, and tell me exactly how terrible they are :)

I agree with you that the Grieg piano sonata Op.7  is excellent, and not very known (i beleive it is the only sonata he wrote, but i am not sure). I have it in an "all Grieg" CD by Leif Ove Andness, that is highly adviceable.
