Clavinova/Tascam/Garageband: Pedal problem
on: May 25, 2005, 07:52:10 PM
Hello everyone,

I have my Clavinova CLP-300 hooked up to Garageband via a Tascam US-122.
Works just fine.

Only: I just cannot work out how to get Garageband to recognize the pedals ...
I should add that the whole MIDI stuff is new to me.
So if someone could be so kind to give me a hint (or a link) I would be very grateful.

Yes I read the manuals (Garageband/Tascam/Clavinova) but as this stage of my knowledge I can't make any sense from it.

Thanks a lot in advance,
chris

Unfortunately I haven't used garadge band before.

In MIDI there is a list of Controllers that is seperate from the 16 MIDI note channels.  The controllers modify different aspects of the midi notes.  Try looking if you can find a listing of controllers for the particular track you are working on.  There will be one called sustain pedal (or something similar).

Maybe your software isn't setup properly to recieve all controller events on all channels.   Check for that.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

There are a couple of good utilities that show you exactly what MIDI signal is coming into your computer. Check out MIDI Monitor (you can pick it up from www.macupdate.com). Use this to diagnose whether GarageBand can't "see" your pedals or whether the signal is not emitted from your Clavinova in the first place. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys for taking the time replying.

In fact one has to press an obscure combination of the buttons on the Clavinova to activate the pedals for MIDI (why one wants to have them deactivated in the first place is beyond me).
It's all working just fine now.

Again, thanks a lot,
chris
