Guild Tomorrow

Dear Everyone,

I'm new to the forum, so hello!  I am 16 years old and I've been playing piano for 6 years or so, and tomorrow is my third Piano Guild recital/audition/thing... whatever it is.  I'm quite nervous as I don't like the way any of my songs sound.  It's all sort of Blaaeeh To me... maybe it's because I've been playing them for soo looong!  I'm not an especially good player, thought not really terrible.  I am playing Late Intermediate music, except for my 9 memorized Guild pieces.  8 of them are early intermediate/intermediate.  (Which is sort of disappointing and really embarassing)  I'm playing 6 Sonatinas and 3 Melody Bober pieces.  My Sonatinas worry me the most; I seem to have lost my touch with them.  They aren't quite as colorful now and I'm prone to mistakes.  It's dreadful... I don't know what to do.  It's important to me to get a good critique.  Piano means so much to me I want others to appreciate it- at least once a year when Guild rolls around.  As soon as a make an advancement- I figured out how to play a song from a Fake book at it sounds good!- then I get a blow that turns me down (i.e. The 10 year old girl across the street has been playing for 3 years and is in the same level of music that I am)  Sorry if I'm sounding pouty!  I'm just really nervous for Guild tomorrow.  Does anyone have any tips?  Even if you could just give one little bit of advice that helped you, I'd really appreciate it.  :)  Thank you so much!!

In music, as in marriage, you can fall in and out of love many times! Try to remember what attracted you to the pieces in the first place. Don't be ashamed of their simplicity; it takes extra maturity to show the beauty of simplicity.  And...(I know this is easier said than done!) try not to compare yourself with others too much -- you will always be better than some and worse than others -- making you think you're a star or a worm! Enjoy your music and enjoy others' music; do your best and don't fret!

Best wishes for your performance!
