Alkan's Etude Op. 39 No. 1 "Comme le vent"

Has to be one of the worst pieces of "music" I've ever heard. Just a bunch of mindless marathoning around the keyboard.

I like it a lot!  Not my favorite of Alkan's works, but still a great piece.

Ugh yeah, that piece.. ugh.
Some of alkan's music I really like though, I love his symphony for piano.
[lau] 10:01 pm: like in 10/4 i think those little slurs everywhere are pointless for the music, but I understand if it was for improving technique

I feel the exact same way!  I dont like Comme Le vent, but that Symphony is beautiful.. Le Festin de Aesop is also great!  However, I always prefer to listen to rather than play the music.  Whenever I follow along in the sheetmusic with recordings, I just get a headache.

I like that etude a lot, I find it quite amusing (to listen to!) and I think that it actually has something to say musically (not a very common trait among etudes). Of course, it only works at the insanely fast speed it's supposed to be played. I like Jack Gibbons interpretation, which i own.
