Of the list, the only viable option is Moscheles. No one else deserves the fifty seventh position. NO ONE!

Err...so what?
Bach made Beethoven, very interesting... And I think, Paganini then made Liszt? Who made Wagner? Who then made Mahler (their studies of each others music are well documented)? So, Paganini>Liszt>Wagner>Mahler? Paganini>Mahler???
Following your logic, the list of the greatest composer would not be orderer according to their greatness, but probably on their date of birth and their "influence" on other composers.

I, btw, think that the list is pretty good (I have seen other lists where some of the greatest weren't even on the list, Bartok, Mahler, etc.). It's nearly impossible to satisfy all people, and I think it will provoke some extreme reactions because the "pianist's composers" got not the high: Chopin 8th, Liszt 22th, Rachmaninov 23th, whereas Sibelius (???) is 21st. Well...

Edit: Yeah, right, there was also a topic! (although a stupid one, but heh...)
I voted Beach, because I just ordered some music by her (due to Bernhard's constant recommendations), and at first glance liked it quite a bit. Hmm, some day, she might be there in my Top 50.

ignoring order of birth and only focusing on greatness...i vote cecile chaminade.  she was good at writing miniatures (which i'm fond of) and her music is often left unplayed because it is somewhat easy and maybe too poetic (like schumann) for some people's taste.  i like it anyway.  mcdowell is another of my favorite poetic composers.  small, encore type pieces.  voted chaminade.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

That list is way off.  Saint-Saens should be around 30 or 35.

That list Joel posted is crap (my opinion).  Chopin all the way down at number 8?  Come on!  The site says, "Composers are ranked for their innovation and influence,
as well as their aesthetic importance and historical significance."   So....they're saying that Haydn was more innovative and influential than Chopin? Schubert has more important aesthetics and historical significance than Chopin? COME ON!

(that tirade was [mostly] a joke)

I voted Czerny because his name stuck out.

John Cage

John Cage is not a composer. He is a creative sound-technician.
