A little pain
on: June 08, 2005, 01:45:08 PM
I am a long time player who is getting back into serious playing - after 20 years of "not so" serious play. I am doing a little accompanying and playing at church.

I am now noticing a little pain in my forearm and wrist. Should I be concerned? Is this a normal part of getting back into the swing?

Thanks All!

I think wrist pain is a bad sign.  Everyone agree?

I think using the muscles in the forearm might produce a little pain and stiffness.  Part of the process of developing, but could be bad if pushed too much.  Anyone disagree?

ANY pain, no matter how small, is a serious problem. If you hurt or are uncomfortable, then you are doing something wrong. You just have to home in on what it is that you are doing...

all this advice can mean bullshit..seriously..to get a more thoroughm yet still not concrete (because we are only over the internet and none of us are physicians) answer.

how long has the pain been going on for?

what is the quality of the pain? (sharp..pulsating..burning sensation etc)

is the pain only when you play?..or can you feel it on a regular basis..or other activities?

does the pain radiate..if so..where?..

do you have any pinpoint pain?..in other words..palpate your forarm and wrist and look for "tender spots" where pain is more prevalent

do you hear any minor snapping or clicking of wrist joint?...this could be an indication of a weakened ligament

and lastly

do you have a siberian husky?..if so..how old is he? (Notice: this question may have nothing to do with the evaluation of your injury)

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
