Volunteer Work ?
on: June 10, 2005, 01:23:24 AM
I am just curious how many people are involved in some sort of volunteer work.  It could be related to anything... environmental, music, people oriented.  Feel free to post about it if you would like to.  Thanks,

Yes, I had to so I could get confirmed (and make some money) but I never will again.  I don't believe in charity.
I want an Integra.  1994-2001.   GSR.  If you see one, let me know.

in the past.  used to perform a lot with my hubby at senior centers (he sings and i play).  also, have helped soup kitchens (salvation army).  volunteered for reading programs, too, that help children with literacy.

there are so many volunteer programs at my daughter's school that i cringe now, when she brings another paper for coupons or something at the local grocery stores, or soup labels, whatever.  i am done with that!  mikeyg might be on to something!

and, when people call or ring the doorbell, i usually say no.  but if they send something in the mail that i can take a look at in my spare time, it's yes sometimes.

one thing i cannot refuse is girlscout cookies.  those mint chocolate ones.  is that volunteering?  also, when my kids outgrow their clothes, i donate them and don't throw them.

i would say i do less volunteering because i'm pretty much working hard at home.  i used to babysit, etc. but am done with that, too!  sometimes you get to an age where you want someone to volunteer time to sit with you and just talk about volunteering.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

On a similar theme...anyone ever telephoned a large corporation and got through to the person who had volunteered to do some work that day? :)
