top ten pieces
on: June 13, 2005, 03:10:29 AM
What would be the top ten all time pieces that you would want to play fitting this criteria?

one Bach,
one Beethoven,
one classical (excluding Beethoven),
one Chopin,
one Liszt,
one Debussy/Ravel,
one sonata (other than from those already mentioned),
one etude (any composer),
two others (can include works of composers already mentioned)

(btw, it has to be specific works, not a whole set such as WTC or Chopin Op 10)

For me  it would be:
1. Bach Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue
2. Beethoven Appassionata Sonata
3. Mozart Sonata K576
4. Chopin Polanaise in A flat 'heroic'
5. Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody no 2
6. Ravel Jeux D'eau
7. Prokofiev Sonata no 7
8. Liszt La Campanella
9. Chopin Ballade no 4
10. Liszt Mephisto Waltz

7) Grieg Sonata, once again incredible
8) Liszt TE Mazeppa

1. The Complete Well-Tempered Clavier (too bad)
2. I refuse to pick one-
Sonata Op. 90
Sonata Op. 101
Sonata Op. 106
Sonata Op. 109
Sonata Op. 110
Sonata Op. 111
Concerto No. 4
3. Schubert- Wanderer Fantasy
4. Piano Sonata No. 3 in B Minor, Op. 58
5. Concerto No. 2 in A Major
6. Ravel- Le Tombeau de Couperin
7. Prokofiev Sonata No. 8 in B-flat
8. Ligeti Etude "Disorder"
9. Prokofiev Concerto No. 3 in C
10. Brahms Concerto No. 2 in B-flat

This are all pieces I haven't played, since I've played the "all time piece" I would want to for some composers (Schubert, Chopin)
