I just heard one of this guy's ballet suites, and it was awesome. Does anybody know more about him, like if he wrote any piano music.

YES!  He wrote some lovely smaller pieces, and several are intermediate and upper-intermediate level.

I think students tend to prefer them to the Heller pieces, but they are both great prep for Chopin.

He wrote a concerto for voice that's good for listening.

of course
I love Gliere
I used to play several of his works, the last of which was a waltz (I played it about 3 years ago), with which I redeemed myself during my first ever recital.
If you'd like I'll try to find the sheet music, and I also have another piece of his lying around somewhere..

I don't know about Gliere's piano music, but he was practically worshipped as a god by my high school orchestra for penning 'The Red Poppy' and, specifically, the Russian Sailor's Dance from said work, a simplified and transposed version of which we often played as an encore.  It's probably his most popular piece, though you wouldn't have a difficult time convincing me there are better Gliere works (I was never very fond of it myself - not enough variation of the theme in the variations, I thought).
