does anyone feel there is any advantage to using either 1 2 3 5 or 1 2 4 5 to play root 7ths? should i remain consistent or vary it based on the fit of my hand and chord quality? any suggestions.......plz.

I think it depends on which chord.  But I'd prefer 4 on a white key and 5 on a black key, e.g. on C7.  It feels weird for 1235 on a C7.

Another option is to use 1234.  The good thing is you have your pinky finger ready for the next top note.  And the 4 can play a stronger top note than the pinky.  It's also good if you improvise, the pinky can play the 9th or the lead when needed.
