Who Will Win the RICHTER competiton?
on: June 15, 2005, 08:54:04 PM
If you haven't been watching, this competition has been full of excitement and CRAZY performer's who can really really hold the audience's attention with brilliant playing, aristocratic reserve (heh), and yes some FURY and SPEED.

you have to figure out your timezone to watch it.

If your in NORTH AMERICA have fun getting up early in the mornig.  and iof you want to watch the morning over in moscow have fun getting up at 3:30 in the mroning.

The best way to spend your next week and a half!

i'm undecided. so many solid pianists.

those are some creepy/weird looking contestants..
I only recognize 4 of them, 2 of whose playing I'm "familiar" with, and only one whom I really really like and find not so bad to look at.

I was able to get it to work today for the first time (I was able to watch the Chopin PC #2).

the schedule is not correct - they listed nebolsin twice (both today and tomorrow). ueno did make it to the finals, in the "news" page there is a list with the 6 finalists, so i suppose he will play either today 2nd or tomorrow 1st (just before rudenko)

OMG, how can any one award him the first prize!?! Heard him a couple of years ago in the Tchaikovsky concerto no. 1 - hard sound, no colours, no taste, and simply did everything he possibly could to vulgarize the piece...

Well, his own teacher seems to be in the jury......

I'm terribly sorry, but Nebolsin was the guaranteed winner from the beginning. Perhaps his Tchaikovsky wasn't what one expected, but he has by far the biggest career of any of the competitors. He's mentioned at great length by Joachim Kaiser in his standard work on pianists, which shows the level of respect he's accorded in Europe. I've heard him many (5+) times, and have always wondered why he hasn't caught on in the United States. His debut with the Cleveland Orchestra was very well received (Paganini Rhapsody), but hasn't sparked a bigger career yet. Hopefully this will gain him a wider public. His playing has been remarkable for it's imagination and color (yes, color) every time I've heard him live in Germany. The webcast did a poor job of catching the warmth of his playing.

Well, it's maybe more a matter of taste. He's not just my type of pianist. But congratulations to him anyway!  :)

esp since he played rachmaninov 1st :)
(rudenko played tchaikovsky, and i was sure he was "the guaranteed winner" - looks like i was wrong)

Perhaps if you had been less clever, and actually read my post, you'd have realised it was in response to Eusubius' comment about not having enjoyed Nebolsin's playing of the Tchaikovsky some years before. Eusubius seemed to understand it, and there was no disrespectful intent to it-  shame that your fingers are faster than your thoughts!

calm down cururo. Perhaps if you're first two posts on this forum hadn't randomly appeared in this thread, I wouldn't suspect you to be Nebolsin's agent or something.  :P

Anyway up until the concerto round I also thought RUDY woudl win for sure, but his tchaik came of a bit less furious than expected. I missed Nebolsin's concerto, apparently it was awesome though, and clearly it was a prize-winning performance.  Congratualations to all the participnats though.

but ......

RUDENKO WILL RETURN!!!!!!!!!
