My fingers are too small! Grrr!
on: June 17, 2005, 03:32:01 PM
This morning I started learning the 3rd movement of the Moonlight Sonata (which, despite all the notes on the page, is turning out to be relatively, and surprisingly, simple).  My only problem is that my fingers aren't long enough to use the correct fingering in mm. 10 & 12.  There is absolutely no way I can reach from a G# with my pinky to an E with my 4th; but I also don't want to break up the phrase.  Any suggestions from all you founts of wisdom??

At tempo? :o

There is no universally correct fingering. Use what you can. Try your 3rd finger instead.

Erm . . . (cough) not exactly at speed.  Almost, though.  I can only play the first page yet.

Yeah, right now I'm playing it with 3, or sometimes picking it up with my right hand - not sure which one to use.  The G# - A in those measures is giving me fits also.

Beethoven must have had nice big hands.  ::)
