omg everyone's gone lowercase
on: June 18, 2005, 08:16:36 PM
almost everyone's screen name is in lower case letters now, omg i can't stand it. <_< i'm so used to the capital at the beginning of the words that this lower case thing really is disturbing. >_> anyway it can be fixed?

no i mean like people's screen names like siberian husky and others that used to be capitilized are lower case since the piano street switch.
..don't know how i avoided getting lowercased, but sure glad i did.

i find it's more aesthetically pleasing haha

actually i was thinking of converting to using capitals more often to make me seem like i care about my grammar more, after discovering that there is an apostrophe society out there who is full of people who dislike the poor use of apostrophes in today's society!

i agree with tds and tash.  using lower case shows intelligence and artistic capabilities.  also, it saves time.  do you know how much time it takes to type upper case, lower case, upper case.  try it!  if you like to type as fast as you talk - then try only lower case.  of course, it doesn't look like formal writing, but this is a forum!  people aren't even using their first names, and when they finally tell it - use a nickname.  how formal is that?

ok.  i know where the forks and knives go.  one thing someone tried to confuse me on the other day, though, is which way you pass the food.  i was sure it was to the left.  then someone says, no that is incorrect!  to the right.  so which way is it?  (if you pass to the right - you are passing into someone's left elbow).
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

Because on typewriters (perhaps you're too young to have ever seen a real one?) that's exactly what used to happen in order to make a captial letter.  You'd hit the shift key and the typing mechanism would 'shift' into a new position allowing the capital letter to hit the ink ribbon instead of the lower case.

I'm scared that I'm actually old enough to know this crap!

I'm giving away my age here too but didn't want to miss the opportunity to throw in this other piece of wisdom: the lower case letters are called that because they were--the lower ones on the shank that hit the ink ribbon. Now, why could upper case letters be  called that?

I have to dial 411 on my digital phone to find the answer.

Years ago I had a talk with my daughters who used to send me emails in all lower case. I found it harder to read, impersonal and insulting. They didn't change then (they were in the rebellious age) but today, as young professionals, they understand what I was talking about and are back to civilized spelling in their informal communication.

Boy, that was hard, deleting all those spaces that came automatically  ;D

Well, actually, I tried to type in my "pen" name with the usual caps, but got rejected.  I think the new PianoStreet thing bumped everything down to lower case, at least for mine.

mikeyg agrees that lowercase is much more efficient and therefor those who use them are more intelligent...

LOL--I do too!!!  Gee, I REALLY show my age here, huh?  My parents used to have an ANCIENT typewriter in their basement.  Not sure if they sold it at a garage sale a long time ago, or not.  I hope not!  I'd love to have it.  And they keys are really hard to press.  You have to press each key down like 2 inches before the little hammer-thingy strikes the paper.  It's a great way to strengthen each individual finger, though.  Now with computers, all I have to do is basically just touch the key.  What a rip-off!!  I could really go off on a tangent here, but I will spare you all!!

You can fix your screen name now, in the settings.  I think Harry Potter already figured that out.
