Muzio Clementi
Sonatina
in C Major, Op. 36 No. 3
A fun, energetic piece, much like its predecessors from the same opus but with a slight increase in difficulty.
A Lively Exploration
The Sonatina in C major Op. 36 no. 3 is a fun, energetic piece, much like its predecessors from the same opus. Featuring a slight increase in difficulty compared to the previous two sonatinas, the spirited first movement enjoys a lively exploration of an increased range of the keyboard. A lyrical Adagio in dotted rhythms follows, and the sonatina finishes with a jocular Allegro. Background
Clementi’s “Six Progressive Sonatinas for the Piano Forte” Op. 36 were published in 1797 and revised in 1820. They offer the intermediate student a series of delightful little pieces to use for developing their talents, ordered in gently escalating difficulty. Today, they rank among Clementi’s most well-known works, remaining a staple in the teaching repertoire all over the world.Forum posts about this piece:
