Graceful G Major
The Sonatina in G major Op 36 no 2 offers the player a slightly greater challenge than the first sonatina from the same opus. The first movement, a graceful Allegretto, challenges the player with an increased quantity of sixteenth-note runs, which need to be executed with evenness and elegance. The second movement, also marked Allegretto, has a calmer pace, the hands conversing in dotted rhythm. The final movement, an Allegro in 3/8, ends the sonatina on an energetic note.Background
Clementi’s “Six Progressive Sonatinas for the Piano Forte” Op. 36 were published in 1797 and revised in 1820. They offer the intermediate student a series of delightful little pieces to use for developing their talents, ordered in gently escalating difficulty.
