Tschaik. No. 1 by LL
on: June 19, 2005, 10:01:33 PM
I was surfing through my cable TV channels when I stumbled upon the Tschaik No. 1.  This time played by Lang Lang with the Berliner Philharmonic conducted by Sir Simon Rattle in 2004, I think.  Half the time, the guy didn't even look at the keyboard.  You know the playing is special when the cameras showed the string players in front straining their necks to catch a glimpse of the fancy finger work.  Martha Agerich was always my favourite for this one, but now she has serious competition.  The final bars of the last movement saw LL just looking at the orchestra, answering and giving back what they had to give.  Breathtaking.  I just wished I had recorded it.

heh, um, yeah

I have a recording of his Tchai 1, if you want.

edit: btw - do you recall what channel that was on? I'm curious if it's a network I normally don't check that was showing this.

I recorded Lang Lang when he played Tchai no 1 at the Proms a couple of years ago. He was fantastic, he has such expression in his face he goes into a world of his own. Anyone else see this performance? I really wish i'd been down in London that night to catch the performance live.

I know what u mean.  Reminds me of Mr. Bean.  Sometimes it looks like a gleeful taunt at the orchestra.  Hope he continues making more wonderful music.

Oh i think i remember that commercial? Was it the Grieg piano concerto he plays?

Anyone seen the Nokia phone advert with the little blonde kid playing the piano? You know the famous Nokia ringtone? I love the way somebody made that into a big romantic piano concerto-esque style (like Tchai/Grieg-ish) for that advert, i would actually have that ringtone if it was available (and if i had a Nokia phone).

that seems to be societies way of doing things. Steal something obscure and claim it as your own.
