I've played Moonlight and Pathetique, and I just got the music to Waldstein to tackle it (my favorite to listen to). Personally, I found the Pathetique relatively easy to learn and play. For those who have played multiple Sonatas -- how does the Pathetique compare in difficulty to the others?I've decided to make it my mission to learn all of them . . . .
6 missing yet! (we never get someone who played op.54....). Hey rach334, so you play the Op.111, how many others have you played of them? (Not doubting that you can play it, just curious when someone would actually tackle it, considering "experience" with Beethoven sonatas)
I have a strong background in Bach (especially his partitas) along with Beethoven's Appassionata Op. 57, Sonata Quasi Fantasia Op. 27 no 1, and his Sonata op. 2 no. 3. My teacher says that these pieces are vital to understanding some of the aspects of that sonata (the Bach she says helps you understand every piece ever written, don't really know why but I love his music all same ) and she also said that I already have enough of a understanding of this sonata to, what she believed to be, a very decent interpretation. And no its not so steller that it would beat anyone else's of course not but she says that It was a very intersting interp. so I don't really care if any believes that I have the ability to play it or not, at least I can sit down a play and at least entertain myself with this outstanding sonata.btw I play a little rachmaninoff, his etude op. 33-8, his preludes 3-2 23-1 32-10 and she says that these helped me establish the passion in this piece. And for the jazz in there (yes there is many segments of a jazz-like quality) all I have to do is listen to my dad play the saxophone to help me out.
