Scarlatti Sonatas...
on: July 16, 2005, 04:40:39 AM
 Hello everybody,

I did not know in which board to post this, so I decided to post it in Repertoire.
I would like to ask two questions to all:
Does anybody know the K (Kirkpatrick) number of the sonata by Scarlatti played in a film by Michelangelo in The Art of Piano? They show Op. 447 (I believe), but I have been searching through a great number of his Sonatas, and it was not a successful search.

Also, can anybody tell me where I can get free sheet music by Scarlatti? I've searched through some sites, but they have limited numbers of his music.

If anybody can help with this, I would be thankful... ;)

Thanks in advance,
Mario Barbosa.

I know, I can only find the first one-seventy-something works, and I have already memorized all of those....

The sonata Michelangeli plays is k27 (one of my favourites)

Sankey (harpsichordist to the internet) has the first 127 sonatas available (as Jeremy said above)

On this site you can find them on PDF:

https://icking-music-archive.org/ByComposer/Scarlatti.html
(127 sonata scores in PDF)

Otherwise, the cheapest wwy (to my knowledge) is to get them on CD from CD-plus (google them). It costs about £20. The downside is that it is the unreliable Longo edition.

Best wishes,
Bernhard.

Yes, the Scarlatti sonata in b minor--Murray Perahia plays this on his "great pianists of the twentieth century" recording put out by steinway.

But I actually prefer Michelangeli's rendition......does anyone know if there's a good audio recording of Michelangeli playing this and/or other Scarlatti?  All I have is his Rach 4 and Mozart concerto recording.

Thank you soooo much, this is one of my favorites from  Scarlatti's Sonatas, and I could not find it anywhere... What a relief, I must say.  ;D

Thanks to all once more!

Sincerely,
Mario Barbosa

There are two CDs of Michelangeli playing Scarlatti:

And do try Mikhail Pletnev double CD for Virgin (his rendering of K27 is quite interesting).

Best wishes,
Bernhard.
