For one example, Edward MacDowell's "New England Idylls" include a poem with each piece. It appears the composer himself wrote the poems.
The poems rhyme. However, they don't have much to do with the pieces except to set a mood or something.
I must agree with abell88. Your question appears to lack the full measure of clarity.
