Ahhhhh Rental Pianos
on: July 22, 2005, 04:51:02 PM
Hi Everyone!
 :D

I have been renting a piano for years and my parents and I have recently decided that we should buy a new one.
We have seen a couple of pianos and in the meantime did not see to annual tuning hoping to give the piano back soon and doing the tuning at that time only.
However the time spent looking around for the new piano was enough for the middle and the right pedals to get stuck.
Some friends of mine told me they knew how to fix it by opening the piano. I cannot can in touch with them right now, and "opening up" a piano myself (especially if it isn't mine )seems a bit risky.

I would appreciate if anyone knew something on the subject and could guide me.

thanks in advance.

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.

Opening to piano up is not risky...but do not touch or remove the action >:(

That's the sternest I can be...

Now to open the piano (I'm assuming that you want to open the bottom panel...
Reach under the keys in the middle and feel for a metal spring clip at the top of the bottom panel. Push that up, and the panel should be able to move towards you and then you can either pull it straight back, or out the side (if there are legs in the way) The only place you need top be carefyul here, is if the panel needs to go to the side, otherwise you may scratch the legs.

Your pedals should now be in plain sight. find out why they are stuck. follow each mechanism all the way intill they dissapear to find out what the blackeage is. If you can, try to fix it.

To put the panel back on, make sure to line up the little pegs in the bottom of the panel, and then just clip it back on!

Good luck :)

One other thing...

Do not use oil on anything except metal parts... and even then, only use a small amount that is deposited by a hypodermic needle.
