Anyways.... I have made a slight change in that previously mentioned recital round. It used to be:
Alkan Symphonie pour Solo Piano Op. 39 (27:00)
Debussy Images Suite II (13:00)
Xenakis "Herma"- Musique Symbolique (7:45)
Scarlatti Sonatas K. 298, 417 and 517 (8:00)
Messiaen Regards de l'Esprit de Joye (8:15)
Wagner-Liszt Isolda's Liebestod (8:15)
But is now:
Alkan Symphonie pour Solo Piano Op. 39 (27:00)
Debussy Images Suite II (13:00)
Xenakis "Herma"- Musique Symbolique (7:45)
Scarlatti Sonatas K. 298, 417 and 517 (8:00)
Tchaikovsky-Pletnev Concert Suite from the Ballet "Nutcracker" (16:30)
The Isolda's got dropped but the Andante Maestoso from Nutcracker gets the same job done, but I feel like I really lost something when I dropped the Messiaen. Here are the EXACT times (done today) of all of these pieces:
Alkan Symphonie pour Solo Piano Op. 39 (25:58)
Debussy Images Suite II (12:33)
Xenakis "Herma"- Musique Symbolique (7:30)
Scarlatti Sonatas K. 298, 417 and 517 (6:54)
Tchaikovsky-Pletnev Concert Suite from the Ballet "Nutcracker" (16:20)
All of that adds up to 66 minutes and 195 seconds... ergo 69:15. That leaves 5:45 worth of time in my round and I need to choose an atonal modern work to fit in that slot. I know Herma is modern but avante-garde serialistic pieces are sort of in a category of their own and i need something that at least has some noticable form. So please vote for one of those things up there. I'm just gonna go with whatever gets the most votes. I play all of them at the same general level of goodness. The Babajanian is the most virtuostic, the Ligeti is the most challenging musically, and the Prokofiev I can get out extremely fast and showy. I asked my teacher and he said any of them would be good choices (big help....).
Also, what order should I play these pieces in?
Oh. The Babajanian.
