a really hot grand piano, a house, a car, then i would invest half of it, pay off my uni fees (HECS is the best thing australia has come up with- not having to pay uni fees until you're earing over $35 000/yr), a massive supply of classical music cds and books and sheet music. and a cello, and cello lessons. ummm oh i'd be nice and pay for my sis to continue doing ballet in england. hmmm i think i may have run out of money...

Raffy, I bet it's actually possible to buy your way into Juilliard.  You're not kidding.

And as for the person who mentioned the Porsche Boxster.....

I test drove one--no ability to purchase---and they're amazing.  Go try it.   Dress semi-nice, make an appointment before hand, go on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning when it's slow.  They'll let you drive one.  I went 100 mph on the freeway.  I took a sharp turn at 30 mph.  The Porsche makes you feel invincible.  I could have done more.  The sound of the engine behind you, not in front of you, is so strange but so intoxicating.

1.  Get out of debt

2.  Invest in real estate

3.  Purchase a piano and library materials

4.  Help others get out of debt/buy things for people

mayla, could you help me?

i need some money?  just a couple of thousand dollars. (checked bank balance the other day...decided to put class on credit card again.  wonders if teaching will pay back the credit card fast enough?)

and what about GAS money this year.  mayla, i need some more money for gas.

and what about BABYSITTING money.   mayla,  maybe about $350 per month times three months = yea.  another $1000. would be handy.

SERIOUSLY, i applied for a $10,000 scholarship over the net.  i hope i get it, but i've never won anything in my life.  it makes me think i am foolish to get my hopes up (as my husband does with publisher's clearing house).

Yeah, here you go pianistimo :   $12,000  : Now, please use it for what you need.

Also, my wad has become something like the loaves and fishes, I have decided.  It never seems to be gone...  and the cruses of oil (is that right ?), never empty.

mayla, you 're right about the cruses of oil never being empty.  in regards to the basics of life, i have never really wanted.  even when my hubby was unemployed, we would get through the tough times.  when he was employed before being unemployed, i planted a bunch of beefsteak tomatoes for fun.  little did i know that later it would get us through a rough week (eating tomatoe sandwiches).  i think that's why the bible says to sow in the morning and the evening (or something like that) because you don't know which will come in handy.

this week in church we learned that overly optomistic christianity can get you into a lot of trouble.  like the pastors that preach you should be blessed monetarily in everything.  i think there's a blessing for tithing that DOES say that if you tithe you will have a cup running over.  but, being rich can be a curse.  Christ asked the rich man if he would give all that he had to the poor and come and follow Him, but the rich man went away sorry because he couldn't.

you're a giving person, mayla, and it will at least be returned to you full and flowing over.  we don't have to be filthy rich.  just comfortable (maybe with a petrov someday?)

ps even uncomfortable is ok.  i find i pray more when i'm uncomfortable.

pss also, in regards to tithing, at some points i have wondered which church i would give to?  if 'the spirit moved me' i would instead just give something to neighbors (where we used to live when the economy was down) who were having a hard time. i think God appreciates common sense.  if someone isn't eating right or needs some gas money - why not.  we might need the favor returned sometime.  ten percent isn't really that much when you get down to it.  especially since the loaves and fishes deal is true.  i've tested it.

Well said, sister. I really like the passages you brought up.

Now, if I have a lot of money, I probably won't do anything different.  I'll keep the money in the bank, invest in real estate and be more generous to people in general.
