How long you need to finish 15 Inventions ?
on: September 01, 2005, 03:01:09 AM
Just curious how long you need to finish all 15 Inventions? I am not conservatory student, just amateur and quite old ( >40). As my progress now, I suppose I need 1 ~ 1.5 years to finish al of them.

I'm not sure if just playing inventions is the best idea....

I suppose that playing all of them is better than none....

I think your assesment is about right, but there are so many variables. If I were you, I would learn about 4-5 of them  (Choose your favorites) and master them. Then use the other time to learn some other repertoire.

I'm nearly finished learning my third 2pt invention and I can tell you that as you progress what once was painstakingly difficult becomes easier and easier. It takes less and less effort to understand the pieces and put the hands together.

I imagine after 5 or 6, the rest are just a matter of memorization and working out some fingering. It would probably get a little technically boring by the end of it, so I'm thinking at that point the focus would begin to shift to composition. Pure speculation... You could probably get through them in less than a year if you really got into it.

Then there are 15 Sinfonias   :D
