Your answer is right here :D:

(the score is tabs for piano)

thank you! heres what i understand so far.
the bass staff is only played on the first half of the keys (lower pith so bass).
the treble staff is played on the 2nd half of the keys (but can it be played on the other half?)
each line and space is a key on the piano.

now, what are all of the lines that join the notes up. etc. does that mean play them all at once? what do the hollow ones mean?

I reccomend getting a teacher. Some notes you have to hold for different counts.

In simple 4/4 time:

Whole note/Semi-Breve:4 counts (Fat, hollow)
Dotted half note/Dotted minim:3 counts (Hollow, stem, dot)
Half note/Minim:2 counts (Hollow, stem)
Dotted quarter note/Dotted crotchet:1 1/2 counts (Solid, stem, dot)
Quarter note/Crotchet:1 count (Solid, stem)
Eight note/Quaver:1/2 count (Solid, stem, beam/flag)
Sixteenth note/Semiquaver: 1/4 count (Solid, stem, two beams/flags)

With your clef idea, most often yes, but that is not always the case.

Ahh llamas......is there anything they can't do?

They tell you about the notes relative duration (that is, rhythm). At this point I suggest you have a look at this site, which will explain it all.

Try theory books by Grace Vandendool, for all basic theory. Preliminary level.

hi i'm beginnerish to.
Are the lines joining the notes up vertical, and do they resmble beef cubes( or veg) on a skew?
That sounds like a chord and is played together.
You should try getting lessons if you can, very helpful and insightful.
