I think it is one of the worst recordings of it. And i think many would agree with me.
I dunno, Maybe you haven't heard other recordings of this piece.

Lang Lang seems to be a player you either love or hate.

I may be the only one who is somewhere in between.

Great technique he´s got, we can all agree about that.

He has got lot of improvements to make musically but so have Hamelin and Kissin.

Hmm I'm not sure on that.
Why do people attack those with powerful technique and stereotype them as being unmusical?

Yes, we all know Lang Lang has incredible technique, but he is also VERY musical. He makes his pieces sound INTERESTING and that is all that matters to me.
A musical pianist who is boring? Is that possible?

I really like Lang Lang's playing ...its just different !
However:
I went on an islamey drive last month ..checking out lots of recordings...and I must say, that even though I liked LL's islamey in the beginning ..after hearing Gavrilov, Gilels, Pletnev (the Carnegie hall 2000 recording), Cziffra and some others ..i really found him wanting. The others surpass him easily ...especially Gavrilov => ELECTRIC is the word !
Just my opinion though.

Lang Lang's Islamey does not stack up against Gavrilov's.

Its a live recording at carngie hall (late 1940s) ....good performance, typical horowitzian liberties with the notes ;D , bad sound quality though. I have it somewhere, i think ...
but truly.... there are better islameys available =>Gavrilov !!

Ivo Pogorelich's performance in San Francisco (as an encore!)about 15 years ago was the most electrifying I've heard (He played it again this year--a tad slower, but still incredible). Second place is Gavrilov.
