Kafka's metamorphosis
on: October 13, 2005, 03:29:34 AM
I dont' get it.

the guy turned into a beetle randomly?

But the moral of the story was their daughter got hot?

i read peter kuper's graphic novel adaptation.

What is the point of this story? Is it a satire on something I wouldn't understand? It was entertaining but...hmm.

I read it in college in German literature class.

My recollection is that you had to understand it in the historical political context.  Remember what was going on in the world, especially Germany, at the time it was written.

hum I don't think its anywhere near a historical thing. Its one hundred percent auto-biographical.

I saw it as more of an existentialist novel...

I think Kafka was making a stab at examining the hostility of the world to one's self and the inherent absurdity in existence. You could also see the novel as critiquing discrimination or prejudice based on appearence... Gregor was still Gregor, just he looked like a giant bug. It has been a while since I read the book, so I might be forgetting some details of the novel.

Read "The Trial" as well. If you liked "The Metamorphosis" you'll like The Trial.
Chuck Norris didn't lose his virginity- he systematically tracked it down and destroyed it.
