I've heard a bit about him, but have never really heard any of his works. what is your opinion of him. he seems to be highly underplayed.

I have only listened to his Concerto so far and his famous Rondo.

Not in the Beethoven class, but i intend to listen to other works, perhaps one of the Sonatas.

He taught Thalberg ;D

He was greatly respected during the early 19th century.  A very skillful composer who probably deserves to be heard more.  His music has pretty much faded from the active repertoire, although his Trumpet Concerto is still performed.

He has a couple of excellent piano concerti (maybe 2nd-tier fare).
