Any Beer Lovers?
on: October 29, 2005, 10:38:35 AM
I used to love beer.  I used work hard during the week and just couldn't wait for the weekend to have a nice meal, perferably steak dinner, afterwards wash it down with few nice cold chill beers.  Nothing more satisfying.  Come home afterwards, and light a nice cigar to relaxing music.  There are so many great beers out there, even more so today.  What's your favorite beer if you have any? And by the way, there is nothing more sexier than a woman who knows how to drink a beer.

Have to reply to this one.  Beer, oh my.  My favourite one is a Trippel Westmalle.  Voted best 'strong beer' by the New York Times a few weeks ago.  It's an 'amber'-coloured and is always a fantastic experience to taste it.  The main aroma's are often tiny yellow flowers, apricot, a nice orange zing, and a very 'alcoholy' sensation one can really feel it going down one's throat.  But I also like a fresh blonde one in summertime.  And dark rhum, cognac etc. If any virtuoso plans a trip to Belgium I'll be glad to offer you one of those Trippels.
Cheers from Brussels.

Beer destroys brain cells. In other words, it makes you dumb. Well actually its the alcohol that makes you dumb. It also makes you fat and unhealthy. That's bad. Beers bad. Don't drink beer.

I like most things in moderation, and I certainly appreciate the occassional frosty one. I dont go for all that 'beer kills brain cells' lark - many things in life destroy the body in far worse ways. Take exercise for example - respiration creates free-radicals which are extremely toxic to the body and are the main contributors in aging! But Im sure no one would suggest we never take exercise, would they?

Moderation is the key. I prefer to limit myself to 150 units per week  ;)  ;D

I love beer. My favorite beers are Budweiser and Corona I think. Here in The Netherlands those beers are kinda "special" and we normally drink beers like Amstel/Heineken/Grolsch/Dommelsch/Warsteiner etc. wich are nice beers too, of course.  ;)

Anyway, I like to drink a lot of different beers, I only dislike beers like "Duvel" and "Leffe" (I just don't like the taste of those).

And by drinking tea!
I tend not to drink it (lager, not beer) when I'm on a night out anymore because it usually results in the hangover from hell the next day and some half-recollections of the night before that make want to leave the country. But when it's sunny there's just nothing better than sitting in a beer garden with a pint... But then I live in Scotland so that doesn't happen very often. Sigh.

Beer is great! At the moment I'm drinking a Foster's Special Bitter pint, which we here in the USA call an "oil can"  ;D  One of these and I am set, it's just the right amount...other favorites of mine include Amstel, Bridgeport IPA (Oregon USA), Harp Lager (Eire), Tecate, Pacifico (both Mexico), Kaiserdom (Germany), Samuel Smith IPA (UK), Kingfisher (India), Tsingtao (China) Pilsner Urquell (Czech Republic) and others; these are my current favorites. BTW IPA is India Pale Ale, which evidently was a brew made in India for the Brits who were there. It is probably my favorite brew, it's not too "hoppy". I also enjoy a good Hefeweizen(from a brewery in Oregon again) now and then.

Now here is an inexplicable statement, IMO.....

Why are you drinking American corparate weasel piss when you have all those great beers right there? Please explain why you find these "special"..mah bad self is mystified! Inquiring mind wants to know.... ???

When I was in Turkey (wonderful place! :D ) I drank Efes Pilsen, one of the best beers I ever had anywhere! Can't get it here... :'(  (cryin' in my beer... ;D )  same thing when I was in Australia (equally wonderful, cool animals and plants  :D ) you Aussies keep all the Victoria Bitters for yourselves, can't say I blame you; probably the best beer I have ever had, anywhere from anywhere. Oh yeah the Tiger Beer in m1469sia (excellent reclining Buddha and Turtle Pond in Penang, and I enjoyed KL, great city) was really good too...

Anyway I am glad there is beer, because wine makes me stupid, clumsy and gives me a splitting headache, and hard liquors make me belligerent and unpleasent to be around. And hard liquor isn't good with food IMO.

For me those "great" beers are normal. Everyone drinks it and of course, it's still sweet to drink, but that's all. Drinking Budweiser for example totally taste different compared to other beers imo, wich makes it special (and that's why it's kinda expensive too here  ;D ). But anyway, I guess it's just a matter of taste. Beer rules, I think we can agree with that.  ;)

Samuel Adams is a lager isn't?  In my opinion, one of the best lager beer around (U.S)domestically.  They are way underrated in my opinion.  When I first tried Samuel Adams which was about some  17 years ago, I thought it was an Europrean beer it was so good.

You obviously have never heard of Darwin. Yes, beer does destroy brain cells, but only the dumb ones, therefore beer actually makes you smarter. Just have a few and see for yourself. 8) The more beer you drink, the smarter you become.

A side benefit is that women also get better looking, the more beers you have. ;D

A guy walks into a bar carrying a duffel bag and sits down at the bar and orders a drink.
The bartender notices the bag and asks the man "whats in it?"
The man opens the bag and takes out an 8- inch tall man and a small piano and tells the bartender that this is the only 8- inch pianist on earth.
"Wow," exclaims the bartender, "how did you get him?"
"well, it happened like this. One day I was walking on the beach and noticed a bottle lying on the sand with a cork on it. I opened the bottle up and a genie appeared. The genie told me he would grant me one wish and I could wish for anything. You dont think I wished for an 8- inch pianist do you?" ;D

Our lager,

Which art in barrels,

Hallowed be Thy drink,

Thy will be drunk,

(I will be drunk),

At home as I am in the tavern.

Give us this day our foamy head,

And forgive us our spillages,

As we forgive those who spill against us,

And lead us not to incarceration,

But deliver us from hangovers,

For thine is the beer,

The bitter and the lager,

Forever and ever,

Barmen.

i'm more of a tea-totaller, too, but occasionally a cold beer is nice.  especially when you break a leg.  i find pain killers don't work on me for some reason.  when i came home from the hospital the first thing i asked for was a beer.  my hubby bought a new one for me 'brooklyn brown ale.'  it has chocolate and coffee flavors integrated into it.  i like it a lot.

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
