left hand tremolos
on: November 14, 2005, 04:25:57 PM
i found out how much fun it can be to play opera transcriptions. recently
i obtained a copy of wagners "tannhauser" and started to learn its
evening-star ballade.

however, there are lots of left and right hand tremolos which i have not
encountered before. i guess they are used to mimick violins.

is there a good way to play or exercise these? if find it very difficult to
(i) play them piano;
(ii) repeat the bass as my small finger seems uncoordinated; especially
if four fingers of the left hand are used;
(iii) play a melodic line in the right hand when some of the right hands fingers
are used to play a tremolo.

any insights? thanx

use forearm rotation...develope a "tonal picture" and listen to every tone you produce. and never forget to relax.
