Jonathan Powell playing Sorabji´s OC ?
on: November 15, 2005, 05:00:36 PM
Anyone heard him play it live?

He hasn´t recorded it yet, has he?

The only 2 existing recordings are so full of misstakes and wrong notes and I´m sure he could do it better anyway.

Not yet.

Not yet.

Agreed.

It won't, and it wouldn't.

Jonathan is a member of this forum and he does play the OC better than Madge and Ogdon.  If his record label were smart they would record one of his live performances.

If YOU would be smart you would know that they do not have the right to do it without the permission of Mr. Powell. And Mr. Powell doesn't want it to be recorded before he gives still several other performances of it. I think he must perform it 10 times, if I remember correctly.

Wisely put - and, whilst I take leave to doubt that Mr Powell would be so inflexibly dogmatic as to insist on having given at least 10 public performances of the work before he feels ready to record it, he still obviously wants to have at least a few more behind him before he makes that immense commitment. Personally, I wish he'd agree to do it now and, having heard three of his five performances of it, I have every good reason to wish that. But - as I have said before - the matter is in Mr Powell's hands - and, after all, it's not as though there isn't a record company waiting to do it when he IS ready...
