I love browsing in my uni library for old scores. I always try and imagine who it originally belonged to.

I found this Schumann collection last year and inside it said something like "Dear Mary _______(can't remember the name), Christmas 1889" in reeeally old fashioned, beautiful Victorian handwriting, it must have once been a Christmas present to someone. Inside it had advice given by Schumann on playing his piano pieces (does anyone else have this edition with his own advice included?) It's nice to pass on old scores.

I was also going through all the old music journals and found ones as old as 1880s, they are fascinating to read. Also weird when they reported the "recent deaths" of composers who died many years ago to us - like Debussy, Ravel and Elgar.
"Mozart makes you believe in God - it cannot be by chance that such a phenomenon arrives into this world and then passes after 36 yrs, leaving behind such an unbounded no. of unparalled masterpieces"

Wow, thank you!
That is a very interesting site. Yes I like to look at old music.

There are now coming more and more digitized historical collections online from universities and libraries, especially in the US.
(The library collections in my country Norway have not come that far yet.)
This will soon be invaluable for music researchers. Imagine untill now one have had to travel maybe half around the world if one wanted to see a certain manuscript.

This site is also good; the Chopin early editions:
