hands too small, please help...
on: November 17, 2005, 09:40:12 AM
I have problem playing these 4 notes together as a chord...

d-f-g-d... I guess it's a d7 major chord.....

as the topic mentioned, my hand is too small too play them.. ok, I could, but it's to the very extreme of my hand... my hand is so strained for it...

however, when I tell my teacher... he just makes jokes that I should eat more so grow more... :(

How should I widen my hand??

No problem use one finger to play two notes, in this case use your 2nd finger for the f-g. With other chords just spred the out under the sustain pedal.

i dont think that will look nice and ur hand will still be tense.
if i was you i would do this. practice them like this. play the chord like a appregio back and forth fast till ur hand is tense then rest and do it again till you feel no tense and at this point u can play it fluently.(u will come to this point)
this will give u the flexibility and muscle to perform the chord. It works for me when i have to play a big chord efficiently. Put some BEEF into it!!!! !!

The question is: do you think your hand CAN stretch to play the chord?  There are limits, and I have no idea how big your hands are; if it isn't possible, it isn't possible.

If you don't think your hand can be made to stretch enough, I'd play one note with two fingers.  If you think it can be taught to stretch enough, take lufia's suggestion.

BTW, I would call that a D minor suspended, or a G7 (no 3rd), depending on the bass,  not a D7 major.

This is terrible advice.  It doesn't matter what the hands look like.  You should never try to force your hands to stretch.

All you have to reach is an octave and depress two notes in the middle with 1 finger which makes it easyer than if you needed say CEGC. This is all on the assumption that you can reach an octave. by the way how old are you because I can remember when I had ickle hands :)

Hi, I am 15,.., but still my hands are small, since I am a short person as well.. my biggest handspan is an octave...

I think I am still possible to play that chord..  the matter is that it is my extreme limit..

maybe as someone here said, I will practice more to widen my musle...

thanks alot
