Christmas gifts
on: December 06, 2005, 09:43:37 PM
Being a man I find this realy difficult to shop for and tailor peoples gifts at birthdays and christmas, perhaps this could be a thread about what gifts different age groups and genders like. I am going to try and do all this shopping online this year as it is a little stressfull going in to town.  (How old are you  are you male or female what gift do you want for christmas, and no Porche, BMW, Steinway or any rediculously priced things :) :) :) ;)

i am 40 something

i would like a BMW and a steinway, please, but it doesn't have to be for christmas.  it could be any time of the year actually.  and, the steinway could be a petrov.

or, pablo picasso's  piano, 1920.

22 - I am asking for a coffeepot and a toaster.  To me, a nice travel coffee mug is alwways a great gift for someone you don't know what to get them.  I also like books and cds.

wait a minute.  first you say you don't want busts of composers and then you pick a coffee mug?  well, i suppose a medium priced gift is better than a cheap one or one that's so expensive that you wonder what the person wants from you.  ok the toaster and coffeepot sound quite reasonable!

I'm not talking about little ceramic mugs that say "I Love Piano."   I'm thinking those nice insulated tall travel mugs or thermos mugs.

With the help of Jesus and Santa I want to bring Christmas to Iraq.

That would be the best present to the world ever. I think. Nothing is comparable to... well... ahem... world peace. *Danyal wakes up and realises she's late for her lesson...*

Anyway, I want socks. Mine (or constantly one in a pair) ALWAYS go missing, and I never get given. Always bath soaps, hand cream, candles etc etc instead... I DONT WANT ANYMORE BLOODY CANDLES!! I've just resorted to keeping those things in the pack it came in then giving it out for someone elses birthday.

Oh, and I want chocolate, but good chocolate, not just the sort of second rate stuff u buy at the cafe, but decadent chocolate ie Belgium... yum.

Maybe a good book. And CD's!! Yeah! I need more concerto's in my library. Then maybe some decent sheet music. Henle Urtext. I need more of everything there... except Prokofiev... Thanks Thalbergmad!

Ok I'll stop now, I could go on forever. But the mug is a good idea. For school.

Anyway, all I really want, beyond all the materialistic stuff, is just to be with family and friends (the people I love and cherish) and just to be exceptionally happy, and to be with God. Being the stepdaughter of a psychiatrist you hear of all these people who are going to be completely alone and unhappy, so I appreciate and cherish the fact that I have a family that cares.

Merry Christmas!

EDIT: I'm 16 and female btw
I dont play an instrument, I play the piano.

do people in iraq even observe x-mas?  what if you brought a load of gifts and they shot you or beheaded you and wrapped that up instead?  i know, i'm being cynical.

i think, if they have all the necessities to live and enjoy their own customs and all, they'll be happy.  running water, housing, rebuilt city, people able to return to work without fear, etc.

also, i think the majority of normal iraqi civilians aren't wanting war anymore than we do.  they want to get on with their lives and get this past.  it's the insurgents, and people that don't want them to have a secure country that are fighting.  and, also, people who don't believe iraqi's should have a choice in their religion.  they don't want western ways, ideas, religion to be introduced or taught.  yet, the gospel is preached to the whole world (despite the beheadings and torture) before 'the end' of the entire world.  i think the best present would be peace.  true peace.  which won't come by man.

Just ask them, that's what people who get what other people want do.
[The more subtle can pick up the fact that their loved ones have been dropping large hints about said items from around December 26th the year before "Oooh I saw a lovely pair of shoes in Clarks..." "Ooh I saw a nice pair of earrings" "Oooh we could do with a new sofa" "Ooh, I'm tired of looking at these walls" - careful though, that year I bought a lump hammer]

Anyway, I want a Gem PRP800.

I'd prefer money so I can use it to get what I really need, instead of getting more stuff that you just have too much of already.

Other than that, maybe a Canon Rebel XT or an electronic Organ with two 61-note manuals and 30-note AGO pedal board (32' stops would be nice).  Pipes are nice, but I don't think there is room in the house.

Male, 20 ishy somethingy.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Trampoline.  Very cool.  I wanted a trampoline once (as an adult).  EVERYBODY said no.  I was bummed.  (I was on the trampoline team in high school - so I KNOW how much fun they are!!!!)
