New Piano Market Statistics: Inside the Quiet Transformation of Piano Playing

For those of us who spend our lives on the bench — whether teaching, practicing for a recital, or simply playing for the love of it – the piano has always been a singular concept: wood, felt, strings, and soul. Rach #3 Piano Concerto Ossia Cadenza
on: January 06, 2006, 10:08:56 PM
Hi,

I recently found this webpage: https://nicklewis.smartcampaigns.com/music/classicial-piano/rachmaninoffs-3rd-piano-concerto-the-ossia-cadenza-take-2?PHPSESSID=7c4249ee58bebaf068284310948f0d00

Can any of you wonderfully talented people please take a look at the sheet music excerpt from that page ( https://img58.exs.cx/img58/2053/rachman2sw.gif ), and let me know where exactly in the piece this part is being played?  Just post the time (mm:ss) and specify which of the following recordings: -

Rachmaninoff himself: https://www.gmlile.com/rach/rach3/rachcad.mp3

Vladimir Ashkenazy: https://www.gmlile.com/rach/rach3/ashkenazycad.mp3

Nick Lewis (author of the website posted): https://nicklewis.smartcampaigns.com/nickandrach.mp3

Thanks!
CK

What a great forum -  that was quick!  Thanks a lot nortti.

This is such a great, moving, passionate piece.  Actually, I can't adequately summarise the passion and range of emotions that are involved.  I play very little piano myself.  Recently I attended my first concert and experienced Rach 3 by the Nottingham Philharmonic (England, UK) with Alexis Ffrench.  It was simply Divine!  What an experience.. unforgettable!

Thanks again!  Cheerio...

Hi gruffalo,

I learned of that one from a flyer in a classical music shop.  It was back on November 12th 2005 (see https://www.nottinghamharmonic.org/programme.html ).  I don't know of any more Rach 3 Piano Concerto recitals coming up unfortunately!  Best is to check the website of your local philharmonic for event listings every now and then.  There is also a good website here www.concert-diary.com where you can search nationwide recitals.  If you try a search with 'Where' set to "England" and 'Event Title' as 'Rachmaninov', there are 9 recitals between now and May.  One of those is the more popular Piano Concerto #2, which may be of interest (there are no #3's): -

Rachmaninov Piano Concerto no.2 - soloist Viv McLean
Dacorum Symphony Orchestra
Viv McLean
Centenary Hall, Berkhamsted
More info: https://www.concert-diary.com/home/concert_details.asp?id=58306&ref=13&hide=

If you check from time to time you should find one eventually.  Definitely worth the wait!
