Libetta - Chopin/Godowsky Etudes

Hey everybody! This my first time posting here, but I have been reading this forum for quite some time. I know that some of you really like Francesco Libetta and just wanted to mention (for those of you that don't already know) that he will be performing the entire 53 Chopin/Godowsky Etudes live at the University of Miami in the beginning of February. Also, for those of you who can't go (like me) a DVD of the performance will also be released. I don't know about the rest of you, but I cannot wait for this to be released, I will probably die of anticipation. Libetta also has two CD's that will be released on January 24th one of which will be Czerny: Art of Finger Dexterity. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know what was upcoming from him.

P.S. Has anybody ever heard Severin von Eckardstein play before. I recently attended a recital of his and was blown away. In particular I was really impressed with his last encore which was Rzewski's Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues. I mean come on, playing with you elbow! I was just wondering what everyone else thought about him.

I am glad he decided to re-record/video-tape this

i have fragments of his performance video from before, some of his performance is just stunning, even above Hamelin's level (LH op.10 no.2 as an example)

The last DVD he recorded with the Miami International Piano Festival took about four months to be released, so take that for what its worth. If you don't have this DVD you definatley should buy it. He only plays three songs but its worth it.

Saint-Saëns: Étude en forme de valse (I think this is better than the La Roque performance)
Schubert/arr. Strauss: Kuppelwieser-Waltzer
Chopin/arr. Godowsky: Ignis Fatuus -
(based on Chopin’s Chromatic Etude Op. 10, No. 2)

I agree with you stevie about the La Roque d'Antheron DVD, I watch that on a daily basis. It cost me $200 just to watch it. I had to buy a region free DVD player and import the DVD to the US. However, I dont regret paying that much for it. Not to mention I bought the Berezovsky one shortly after.

The date/time isn't set yet, but his concert is being rescheduled for sometime near the end of March.  He plans on performing ALL the Chopin-Godowsky etudes in a single concert with an hour break in between.

Strange. The director of the MPF told me Libetta will perform at the end of March.  ??

Plus, Carnegie Hall's calendar is booked solid March-June, and Libetta isn't on it...

I e-mailed him a couple months ago, pretty much just telling him how much I enjoyed his playing of some lesser known composers and he e-mailed me back. He told me about a CD he was going to record, but I have no idea where to buy it or anything. I'll post his reply and see if anyone else has an idea.

pastiches et melanges (as in Proust)

There is some interesting pieces:
- Casella imitating music by Wagner, Fauré, Brahms, Debussy, Strauss,
Franck, d’Indy, Ravel;
- Ravel imitating music by Borodine and Gounod
- Clementi imitating music by Haydn, Mozart, etc.. and.. HIMSELF.

Then, the most difficult part: I'll play some piano pieces, imitating
great pianist - often in music they never played. For instance:
Godowsky plays Brahms/Chopin, Studio Op. 25 n. 2
De Pachmann plays Chopin, Studio Op. 25 n. 9
Zecchi plays Schumann, Toccata Op. 11
Sofronitzski plays Pizzetti, Poemetto Romantico (I-Appassionato)

Here is another little update. Libetta is going to release 5 new CDs in the next two weeks. They are: Francesco Libetta Plays Mussorgsky & Balakirev, Carl Czerny: The Art of Finger Dexterity, Piano Music by Ettore Pozzoli, Liszt: Complete Tone Poems Arranged for Two Pianos, and Live in Fort Lauderdale. So definatley watch out for these, I can try to upload parts once I get them.

The Moussorgsky is Pictures at an Exhibition and the Balakirev is a sonata, I don't think it will include Islamey, but I'm not exactly sure.

Digging up an old thread. Does anyone know where to purchase Libetta's DVD of all of the Godowsky Etudes (referenced in this thread)? I've seen a select few on youtube, but it would be really nice to watch all of them.
