Clanging sound on a bass note???
on: January 19, 2006, 03:24:58 PM
I recently had one of my bass strings (which had snapped) replaced. But there is that funny clanging sound (as if somebody is washing the dishes) when i play it. The pitch seems fine ...it just seems to be accompanied by that clanging. Any idea how to deal with this?

If this was one of the bichord bass strings the dealer may have placed a mute on the new string.  This is because the new string will need to stretch a lot and probably would have gone badly out of tune 24 hrs after installing it.  It would then prominently clash with the other unison string. I snapped a bass string on my upright and that is what my tech did.   The string should probably be well streteched for your next tuning when your tech can then remove the mute.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
