music software uses?

How do you use it for your students though?

Or,

how do your students use it?

Any titles and thoughts about music software that's been useful to your students?

Finale notepad is the one that I use at the moment.  It's free, so, affordable, plus I send it to almost all of students.

https://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/

There are several things that I do with it, as a teacher.  I will often make up my own sheets that I want them to learn from... that includes a number of different things.  Like studies on intervals, specific notes, etc.  And of course, sometimes I get on there and compose just for my own satisfaction.

There are several things I have my students do/will be having them do as well.  One of the cool things is that whoever has the download on their computer, can receive files via email which can be opened by anyone else who has the software.  So, sometimes I will send exercise sheets or other things I want them to have, through the email this way.

Also, I often have had my kids composing their own music.  They use the software to compose, and then print out what they have composed and bring it to their lessons and so on.  I have had students send me their composition work during the week, I give them feedback or an assignment, and then they do more with their composition.

Also, one of my goals (haven't gotten it together yet) is to form a little email group where they can send their pieces to each other, listen to each other's works, and talk about it... all of this during the week when they don't necessarily get to be seeing me.  This gives them an avenue to share their work, plus build unique friendships with other kids who are insterested in music.  They also have a reason to stay sociallabley (sp?) and musically active during the week.  Plus, kids these days are so computer literate, it fits right into stuff they like to do already.

I may also have students who are working on any kind of counterpoint write out the separate voices and that kind of thing.  It is a good tool for their own repertoire study.

There are a lot of uses for it, and I don't take full advantage of that yet.  I am just not organized enough yet.  But, I am getting there, slowly but surely.
