Worried about cracked hands? Seriously? Is she made of gingerbread?

First time snowboarding expect to do some falling, either forwards onto your hands or backwards onto your tush... But it's snow :P. I remember it was very frustrating falling over all the time, and sore wrists and arse afterwards, but nothing that didn't heal up in a day.

Snowboarding's a lot of fun, though the first day you might feel like a retarded baby learning to walk, it comes quickly after. Very helpful to go up with people who are about the same skill level as you. If you're with people who're too much better, they will always be far ahead waiting for you (though, it'll make you try harder). Conversely, it can become a drag for someone more experienced to always be waiting.

Snowboarding and skiing are too much fun to be afraid of ;D.

my son says he fell over 20 times on his hands and maybe as many on his rear.  wear some padding everywhere.  keep your shoulders the same direction as the board.  perhaps you could wear some elastic wrist/hand braces under your gloves?  anwya, my son says 'go for it.'  personally, i'd stick with the skiis.

Yo i got a tip, make sure if you used wrist guards or anything, they don't put pressure on ur arms.  Tommy and lefebvre near where I live sells wrist guards, but they dont suggest buying them.  People have serious arm injuries because all the pressure was put higher up, a wrist injury is less severe.  W/e if your a good snowboarder don't bother using wrist guards, cuz if you're at a high level, ur gonna be wiping out and breaking ur face and stuff rather than ur wrist.  Another pointless piece of advice from Nanabush!  But I'm serious, bad wrist guards give worse injuries.

Fall on your shoulders, not your hands - at least unless, or until you know what you're doing - and you'll be fine.

man, you're so frigging lucky. i live in England, so its a mission to up to the Alps to go skiing, and it costs. I used to go skiing every year since i was 4, then because of crappy british education system, i have to work for crappy government exams, so i havent been for the last 3 years. man i sound like a spoilt brat, but i just remember the speed and adrenaline from skiing and its hard to forget.

take this opportunity. dont worry about piano, for once. just where some decent skiing gloves, so you dont get sores on your hands. dont bother padding yourself, just some decent ski pants will do. yea, you will fall over a lot, to start with, but you then get the hang of it.
