Composers Biograghy
on: March 13, 2006, 09:37:58 AM
Has anyone else here read or is reading a biograghy on a composer?

I am currently reading Alan Walker's 3 volume biograghy of Franz Liszt, it is quite dense in detail. Each volume is over 400 pages.

I'm dipping into the "Virtuoso Years" section of the Alan Walker. I don't plan to read it cover to cover, though. I only need bits of it for dissertation-related stuff. I'm doing the same with Peter Bloom's Life of Berlioz.
One of the best composer biographies I've read is Tad Szulc's Chopin in Paris. It's very readable and gives you a lot of information of Paris during his lifetime, too.

I am reading "From Paris to Peoria" which covers the first of the great European pianists to tour America.

Large section on Thalberg, which is why I am reading it.

I am planning on reading the Walker - Liszt biograghy cover to cover. I don't study for a music degree or anything, just interested in Liszt.
