these work in biology too, like if I want to know the order of mitosis, all I have to do is say "I pat my ass tenderly" and we have interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase!

or in mathematics, you can recite the quadratic formula easily if you sing it to pop goes the weasel:

"x equals negative B
 plus or minus square root
 b squared minus four A C
 All over two A!"

SOHCAHTOA- Are the formulas used when dealing with unknown angles or sides of right angled triangle. I was taught this - Some Old Hags Cant Always Hide Their Old Age

Sine= Opposite/Hypotenuse
Cosine= Adjacent/Hypotenuse
Tangent= Opposite/Adjacent

I still remember it even though a teacher told us over 25 years ago!


Order of the planets (from the Sun) in our Solar System:

does anyone know what i'm on about with the pythagoras song to waltzing matilda? our maths teachers sang it in our the teacher/yr 12 review at school, it was something like (to the chorus) right angle triangle right angle triangle, equal the square of the hypotenuse' except that doesn't fully make sense. either was it was a hilarious song and we were singing it for days!

btw, I thought of some other math tricks for you peeps who have some highschool hoop jumping to do:

f '(x) = low d high minus high d low... draw the line, and square below!

I nearly failed high school geometry because of this stupid mnemonic. Soh-cah-toa doesn't exactly work cleanly with English phonetics. I ended up confusing sin and cos for the entire unit.

basically use tan when you are working with the opposite and adjacent
