Schumann Rulz

I have been listening to Schumann for the past 4 straight hours, and it's midnight now and I can ASSURE you, he is THE best!

 ;D

[lau] 10:01 pm: like in 10/4 i think those little slurs everywhere are pointless for the music, but I understand if it was for improving technique

Greetings.

Yes Schumann is very imaginative. As with Mozart, you need to evince timbres and textures and a style of music. From the pieces that I played by him and the ones I am playing right now, I can safely say that he is a very expressive and original composer, whose music cannot be bashed out and make an impression.

Best of Wishes.

I love Schumann, too. I don't think he's immediately accessible like say, Chopin, but his music is really great. It's very original.

Have you heard the opus 3 etudes (based on paganini caprices)? They're wonderful.

I so am learning them, haha.

ALSO the op. 26 vienna carnaval is sooooo amazing!

I feel this is the only thread where I'll be safe to say...

Schumann is better than Chopin.  8)

hahhaa

Schumann at his best..... 8)

Chopin is more consistently good, though. :P Schumann's later works are like.. UBER INSANE. lol.

However he has AWESOME chamber music- something Chopin didn't have!

Over all though, I like Schumann's early and middle works the best.

Fantasierstucke no.2, Aufschwung is my most favorite work from him, the other would be The happy farmer  ;D

Aufschwung is so pianistic, I feel to indulged and involed into the music when I first heard it.
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata
