Favorite Beethoven piano sonata MOVEMENT
on: April 26, 2006, 05:54:48 PM
I will not list all of them  ::)
Should be around 100, right?

Anyway, i beleive it is interesting to know this, because it can happen that you love a particular movement of a sonata, but not so much the rest...So it is possible that your favorite movement does not belong to you favorite overall sonata.

In my case, altough i have listened to all 32 sonatas many times, i find difficult to make such a choice, because i tend to have more present in my memory those i have heard recently.

However, i will make my choice.

TEMPEST 3° movement

I kinda agree with Gould about that movement - something like the hardest, most unpianistic fugue ever written.
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

Waldstein, 1st movement, because it was one of the first movements of any sonata I'd ever heard, so it's more of a sentimental thing, really.
Fortune favours the musical.

Waldstein 3 and 1. Can't wait to get good enough to play the whole sonata. This one just captured me the first time I heard it. Others are growing on me with repeated listening.

Four movements that are special to me are:  Op.90, 2nd movement, Op106, movements 1,2, and of course the last movement of his last sonata.

The last movement of op.111 is unquestionably my favorite...

It's so hard to pick! His sonatas are all great.

oooh tough question...

op.27, no.1, IV
pastoral,   1st
waldstein, 3rd
op.110, 1st and 3rd
Les Adieux, 1st
last one, last movement

as of right now...there's just something about the finale of op.110 that I like.
