Edward Aldwell
on: May 29, 2006, 10:52:06 AM
I am very saddened to report the passing away yesterday of pianist Edward Aldwell. Acclaimed for his performances and recordings of Bach, Mr. Aldwell is also known for his theoretical work, the book Harmony and Voice-Leading (which he co-wrote with Carl Schachter), being a major textbook used by countless conservatories and universities.
As wonderful an artist Mr. Aldwell was, he was an even better human being. He will be greatly missed by the Curtis and Mannes communities, and by those touched by his playing and humanity.

so sorry to hear of his passing. hope it wasn't a bookcase (as with alkan). am sure that he'll have his own painting in the halls somewhere. it's just not the same when a professor is dead. i happened to read that one of his own old julliard prof's (adele) recently passed away, too. maybe he missed her? or, was this just a fluke.

He will be sorely missed.
I regret that I never got to see him perform or meet him; I'll treasure the recordings of his that I have and the memory of working through part of his theory book last summer.

very sad. especially the part that if he'd fallen differently it might have just been a broken arm. yikes. and, he certainly didn't look 68. or was that an earlier pic? now his dog is probably looking for him. it's terrible when people and pets are separated from each other.
but probably worse when musicians are separated from each other, too. we feel your pain.
